Since ancient times, man has been striving hard in order to exploit water resources, whether from permanent watercourses such as rivers and lakes or from seasonal run-off channel such as wadi’s At various ages, man constructed dams for maintaining as

much water as possible and for longer periods for use in various activities.

Constructed in arid and dry zones, dams have also been used for protection against destructive aftermath floods and torrents, During recent decades, many countries have paid special attention for dam construction. Throughout Saudi Arabia in particular, 225 dams are currently operational in addition to 26 more ones under-construction. Obviously, this demonstrates bow Saudi Arabia is keen to provide water, support its sources and develop populated areas and agricultural lands adjacent to wadi’s Channels further study is required to examine optimum methods for dams ‘ management & operation and applying scientifically sound standards that rely on available financial resources and feasible management & operation as well as benefiting from international expertise & experiences in this area
